You've probably hit these walls
SKILL.md shares a context budget with the system prompt and the whole conversation. Mine grew to 500 lines and my token spend grew with it.

Packaged my first skill for the community registry and got bounced twice — incomplete metadata, and the description never said when to use it.

FAQ
Q: How long should SKILL.md be?
A: Keep the body to one or two thousand words; push details into deeper reference files under a references folder and load them on demand. Context is a shared budget — the leaner the always-on part, the more room the task gets.
Q: What must I check before publishing to a registry?
A: At minimum: folder name matches the frontmatter name, the description says what it does and when to use it, no stray files like README, and a runnable example included. Publish-style skills run these checks for you.
Q: How do I know if a skill is well designed?
A: Three tests: precise triggering (fires when it should), stable output (same input, same structure), easy maintenance (change one scenario without rewriting everything).
Q: Is it OK to borrow patterns from other skills?
A: Most community skills use permissive licenses and borrowing structural ideas is fine. Before copying code or copy text, check the original repo's LICENSE and keep attribution.
Q: What's the right way to iterate an old skill?
A: Change one variable at a time — say, only the description — run a regression pass with a skill tester, and log the version. Big-bang rewrites make it impossible to tell which change helped.
Q: Do published skills need maintenance?
A: Yes. Model upgrades and dependency changes can quietly break old skills. Keep a feedback channel open and re-run checks periodically — reputation is earned through maintenance.
